Inika Makeup: Certified Organic, Vegan, Cruelty Free + Halal

Inika is a popular Australian natural makeup brand that’s been on the green scene since 2006.  The entire line is mineral-based and certified cruelty free, vegan, and halal. Many products also hold Organic Food Chain Australia certification, indicating that they contain a minimum of 70% certified organic ingredients.  I’ve been testing out the Light Trial Pack, which includes samples sizes of the Inika’s most popular base products (in shades suitable for light skin), and I want to share my thoughts on those items, along with a a couple other Inika products I’ve been using for quite some time.

Certified Organic Pure Primer
I’m not a big face primer user and the Pure Primer hasn’t radically changed my mind.  A hydrating primer made with hyaluronic acid and organic oils, it moisturizes and does create a nice base for makeup, but, much like the Nude by Nature primer I reviewed in the spring, I don’t notice it doing anything more than my regular skincare, so, for me, it seems like an unnecessary extra step.  If you’re someone that enjoys a hydrating primer under makeup, I expect the Pure Primer would be a bigger hit. I’ve dabbled with using it as an under eye primer and I do like it for that purpose.  The extra moisture the primer provides helps concealer blend out a little easier, especially if some time has passed between applying eye cream and doing my makeup.

New at the Drugstore: Nude By Nature

I’ve always advocated for more accessible natural products, so as soon as I heard that Nude By Nature, a well-known Australian natural mineral makeup line, was launching exclusively in Shoppers Drug Mart this year, I was pretty excited.  Up to this point, our only widespread healthy “drugstore” makeup options in Canada have been Burt’s Bees and a select few Physician’s Formula Organic Wear products, so this is a huge step forward. Nude by Nature markets itself as high performing natural formulas free from synthetics, silicones, talc, and parabens.  The entire line is 100% naturally derived.

I’ve been trying out four products over the last several months -- three purchased by me and one that I received free from ChickAdvisor -- and I’m excited to share my thoughts on this new Canadian launch.  Keep reading for my take on everything...

Perfecting Primer ($32 for 1oz)
I don't typically use a face primer, so if I hadn't received this mini from ChickAdvisor, I doubt I would have tried it on my own.  The Perfecting Primer is silicone-free and has a similar consistency to a light lotion or moisturizer. It's invisible on the skin and creates a good, hydrated base for makeup application, but I haven't found it does anything more than my normal skincare routine.  I did a side-by-side comparison one day with the primer on one half of my face and just my regular skincare on the other and both sides looked and wore exactly the same throughout the day. Without the silicones, the primer doesn't do any intense pore-filling or smoothing and I haven't found it prolongs the wear of my makeup either. I don't think it's a bad product, but, for me, it just feels like an unnecessary extra step. I've also read a lot of comments about the primer's strong fragrance, but I've noticed very little scent at all.

Perfecting Concealer ($24 for 0.2oz)
Dark under eye circles are one of my biggest skin woes, so I’m always up for trying concealers that promise lightweight and luminous coverage.  The Perfecting Concealer is a squeeze tube liquid concealer that checks both those boxes, but I have somewhat mixed feelings about it on the whole. Overall, I like it a lot. Coverage is fantastic and it does a great job brightening the under eye area without looking heavy or cakey.  I’ve also used the concealer to cover blemishes and redness and it works well for those purposes too.

Savvy Minerals by Young Living: Reviewing (Almost) the Entire Line!

Young Living is my favourite essential oil company, so when they debuted a small makeup line, Savvy Minerals, last year, I was pretty excited to check it out. The line consists mainly of loose mineral powders, plus lip products, a mascara, and a setting spray. Everything is free of the regular nasties and made without synthetic fillers or mineral irritants like bismuth oxychloride. My mom is a big Young Living oiler, and she kindly gifted me several of these products. The remainder I was able to borrow and test out from her stash for the sake of including them in the review.

Before we get into the products themselves, I do want to address the elephant in the room. Yes, Young Living is a multi-level marketing company. Yes, I am a distributor, and yes, I’d be happy to help you get their products. BUT, I’ve never been a shill, nor do I sugarcoat my opinions because of brand affiliations. Today’s review is no different.  It’s an honest look at the new Savvy Minerals line -- some products I really like, some I’m a little less sure of, and one that I didn’t get on with at all. Keep reading for all the details...

Foundation Powder - Cool No. 1
The Savvy Minerals Foundation is marketed as a long-wearing mineral foundation with a buildable formula that can go from sheer to full coverage. It’s a solid foundation, but I don’t think it fully lives up to those claims. To me, it’s a nice lightweight, natural, low-coverage mineral foundation. It has a beautiful finish -- satin with a slight luminosity -- but only offers light to low-medium coverage. I’ve tried it with a few different brushes and I don’t think there’s any way to build this foundation up to a full coverage.

The colour range is also somewhat limited, with six light to medium shades (three cool and three warm), and four darker.  As I always say, hopefully the shade range will be extended in the future.  I chose the color Cool No. 1, the lightest cool shade, which is pretty pink in comparison to my usual more neutral foundation colours, but it does match me and blend into my skin nicely. Cool No. 1 is light enough that I could probably go up a shade in the summer.

Diamond Dust Veil
The Diamond Dust is advertised as a lightweight and sheer setting powder/mineral veil intended to extend makeup wear time, absorb excess oil, and add luminosity to the skin while blurring fine lines and imperfections. I love a good luminous setting powder, and while the Diamond Dust has a pretty finish on the skin, it also has plenty of actual glitter particles. I just can’t do glitter all over my face, so it’s a big no from me on this one.

Blush -- Smashing
Smashing is a super pretty blush and is one of the more unique colors I’ve seen in the Savvy Minerals lineup. On first glance, it’s a pretty standard coral/peachy-pink, but it has a hint of cool silver/blue iridescence that brings a lot of extra interest to the shade. The blush blends easily and looks super pretty on the cheeks. Smashing is quite glowy and can definitely function as a 2-in-1 blush and highlight.

(L to R) Crushin' Eye Shadow, Residual Eye Shadow, Multitasker (blended), Multitasker (heavy), Smashing Blush, Cool No. 1 Foundation, Diamond Dust (heavy), Diamond Dust (blended)

Eye Shadow -- Crushin’ + Residual
The Savvy Minerals eye shadow range consists of ten colours, with a pretty even split between neutrals and purples and pinks, plus one random green shade. I, not surprisingly, chose two peachy colours: Crushin’, a shimmery medium peach, and Residual, a pale peach/beige shimmer.  The shadows are pigmented, apply smoothly, and blend nicely too. Both colors are shimmers, but they’re on the more subtle side, so perfectly suitable for everyday, work, or any other occasion.

The MultiTasker is a matte brown intended for use as an eyeliner, eyebrow color, and eye shadow. The colour is far too dark for my brows, so I haven't I tested it for that purpose, but it works well as both an eyeliner and eye shadow. As you can see in the swatch, it’s quite pigmented, particularly when applied with an eyeliner brush, but it also blends out nicely if you want to use it as an eye shadow. The MultiTasker can also be applied wet for a more dramatic look.

Lipstick - Daydream + Wish
The lipsticks have a lovely formula, but I’m not crazy about how shimmery the colors run. My mom has gotten a lot of wear out both Daydream (peachy-nude) and Wish (mauve/pink) and they look great on her, but the finish just isn't something I'd wear regularly.  If you like a more shimmery lip, the lipsticks are buttery, moisturizing, and feel very comfortable on the lips. They’re not ultra-saturated with color, need a couple swipes for full opacity, and almost feel like a halfway point between a tinted balm and a lipstick.

Lip Gloss - Embrace + Abundant
The glosses are fantastic! They’re thick and beautifully shiny on the lips, with just a hint of stickiness to keep them hanging on. Flavoured with peppermint essential oil, they smell fresh and have a slight minty tingle when first applied. The camera picked up some micro-shimmer in the swatches, but I’ve never noticed it on the lips. Both Embrace, a peachy-nude, and Abundant, a medium pink, give beautiful glossy color and a nice fullness to the lips. There are also two other shades -- a bronze and a deeper plum/mauve.  I think the lip glosses are my favorite from the entire Savvy Minerals range.

(L to R) Wish Lipstick, Daydream Lipstick, Embrace Lip Gloss, Abundant Lip Gloss
Misting Spray
The Misting Spray, which somehow missed the photos, is a water, aloe, glycerin, and essential oil spray that can be used before makeup, as a skin hydrator, or after, as a makeup setting spray. The spray is lightweight and lovely and I like using it both ways. It’s, not surprisingly, loaded with essential oils and smells gorgeous -- a mix of light florals and vanilla, with just a hint of citrus. I think the mist makes a great hydrating toner, when used as more of a skincare step, and it also does a good job post-makeup, to reduce any powderyness and to help everything meld into the skin better.

The Bottom Line

With the exception of the Diamond Dust Veil, which disappointed me, I think Savvy Minerals has some great products! The price point is quite high for some items, in my opinion, but I have few complaints about the products themselves, which are solid. My top picks? Definitely the lip glosses, plus the Misting Spray and Smashing Blush. I’m also curious to try the Savvy Minerals mascara that's currently out of stock/being reformulated!

Purely You Minerals Review + Swatches

Natural and nontoxic makeup has come a long way in the last few years, but it can still be challenging to find clean pressed powder products, particularly at an inexpensive price point.  I was introduced to Purely You Minerals a few months ago and was excited to discover a makeup range filling precisely that gap.  Purely You makes small batch handmade mineral cosmetics without talc, bismuth oxychloride, silicones, or nanoparticles.  They offer a selection of both pressed and loose products and everything is very reasonably priced too!

Purely Rose Blush
Purely Rose* is a gorgeous rosey-peach shade with a satin finish.  In the pan, the color has a slight sheen, but it's barely noticeable on the skin and the blush has a very natural finish.  It has great pigmentation and also blends really beautifully.  With fair skin, I always worry about blushes looking stark or like a harsh stripe of color, but Purely Rose blends so easily that it hasn't been an issue at all.  The color is also quite long-lasting.

Bright Eyes + Dark Chocolate Eye Shadows
I love a good neutral eye shadow and these two are just the thing!  Bright Eyes* is a richly pigmented shimmery warm tan with both gold and silver shimmer.  It feels almost creamy to the touch and I've been loving it as an all-over lid shade.

Dark Chocolate* is a mid-toned matte brown with a somewhat drier feel.  It starts out sheer and takes a little more effort to pick up color, but it can be layered and built up for better color payoff.  And, I've actually been enjoying taking advantage of the sheerness for quick makeup days when I'm aiming for a more softly defined crease.

The Bottom Line
Purely You Minerals has some great offerings!  Purely Rose blush is a fantastic everyday peachy-pink shade and I have nothing but good things to say about it.  The eye shadows are really pretty too, although pigmentation does seem to vary across shimmer and matte shades.

You can also catch the end of Purely You's Moving Sale this week!  20-30% off all products through July 28, 2016.

New Product Launch + Review: La Mav Mineral Eye Shadows

I've really enjoyed La Mav skincare in the past, so when I was asked to help spread the word about the new eye shadow collection they're launching today, I was quick to say yes!  La Mav is an Australian company with an extensive skincare line and a small, curated makeup collection, but this is their first time venturing into eye makeup.

The new eye shadow collection consists of four loose mineral shadows in versatile, neutral shades:

Champagne - a satin cream with a few gold sparkles.  Great as a subtle highlight or all over lid shade

Cognac - a shimmery/metallic copper with a gold sheen.  Extra pretty for fall!

Sandstone - a shimmery mid-toned brown.  This one has matte base and a shimmery overlay, so it's great both buffed out in the crease and packed onto the lid, though on the lid, you really need to pat (not rub) if you want to preserve all the shimmer.

Matte Black - a matte black.  Blends out to a softer charcoal grey, great for adding definition to the crease, or can be built up to a fully opaque black and used as liner.

All four are beautiful and have great pigmentation.  I'm a neutrals girl at heart and these are great everyday shades that I'm sure to get a lot of use out of.

That said, if you can only pick up one color, make it Cognac.  It brings out blue eyes beautifully (though I'm sure it will work on other eye colors too!) and the gold sheen/sparkle makes it stand out from your average copper.  I'm also impressed with Matte Black, which is much less messy and easier to work with than other loose black shadows I've used in the past.

The eye shadows sell for $22.95 (AUD) each, or in a set (all four colors + two synthetic eye brushes) for $99.95 (AUD).  To celebrate the launch, La Mav is offering a free Anti-Ageing Skincare Travel Pack with the first 50 eye shadow purchases, so it's worth jumping on these quickly if you plan to order!

Brija Cosmetics Haul + Mini Reviews

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have already seen that I placed an order with Brija Cosmetics during their two year anniversary sale.  Started by natural/nontoxic Youtuber Brianna (iluvjesse444), Brija Cosmetics makes natural mineral makeup that's vegan and cruelty free, as well as free of gluten and synthetic dyes and additives.  I received my order almost two months ago, so I've had lots of time to try these things out and am overdue to give you my thoughts on them!

Mean Girls Blush Collection
Despite not actually being a big fan of Mean Girls, the launch of this collection in the spring was what convinced me I needed to finally place an order with Brija.  I bought mini jars of three of the six shades in the collection and all three are lovely.  The colors are vibrant and pigmented - but not overly so to the point where they're hard to work with - blend easily, and have just the right amount of shimmer.

Regulation Hottie is my favorite of out of everything I purchased.  A beautiful neutral pink, it's that effortless blush that you never have to think about because it goes perfectly with everything.

Beware of Plastics looks very orange both in the pot and when swatched, but it has pink tones that become visible on the cheeks, turning it into more of a bright coral.  Especially gorgeous for summer!

Jungle Madness is the only color I'm a little disappointed with.  I wanted it to be a more vibrant version of Silk Naturals Abstract blush, one of my all-time favorite blushes, but on me, the magenta/purple tones aren't very noticeable and it leans mostly pink.  Still a pretty color, just not quite what I'd been hoping for.

You Know Who Highlighter
You Know Who is gorgeous.  Part of Brija's Harry Potter collection, it has a pale cream/white base with multicolored sparks throughout, but no chunky glitter.  I was happily surprised by how wearable this is.  It's buildable, so a light dusting lends a beautiful natural glow and luminosity to the skin, while a more generous application works for a more intense highlight or strobing.  Either way, it looks beautiful and doesn't settle into or enhance pores, which is often my problem with highlighters.  It also works great as an inner corner highlight.

Jelly Balms
The Jelly Balms are described as having a smooth, silky lip balm-like feel and sheer color, which, as a tinted lip balm lover, sounded right up my alley.

Yvonne is a sheer purple.  It looks dark and intimidating in the tube, but it applies as a sheer plum that's very easy to wear.  It's pigmented enough that I wouldn't be comfortable swiping it on blind, without a mirror, but it's nowhere close to full opacity.

Sprinkles was a limited edition gift with purchase during the sale, but I hope Brianna will consider adding it to the permanent line.  It's a beautiful, barely there peach shade with gold shimmer.  Sprinkles also has added cocoa butter - which isn't in the permanent collection Jelly Balms - so it smells delicious, although I think I slightly prefer the feel of Yvonne on the lips over this one.

(Top to Bottom) Sprinkles, Yvonne, You Know Who, Jungle Madness, Beware of Plastics, Regulation Hottie

I also picked up a couple samples (Hoola Hoop bronzer and Bachelor Watson eye shadow) and got a couple others free in my order, but I haven't used them much yet, so I'll have to update on those later.

Have you tried Brija Cosmetics?

Black Rose Minerals Review + Swatches

I ordered some samples from Black Rose Minerals several months ago, but it's only recently that I've taken the time to really play with them.  Eye shadows were the first indie makeup I discovered and I initially might have gone a little overboard trying to test all the great companies out there!  Most of my eye shadows are sample sizes, so it's not completely beyond what I could feasibly use up, but it still got to a point where I was feeling overwhelmed by my collection.  And right around that time, my Black Rose Minerals order arrived and was basically set aside in a drawer and forgotten....until recently!

I rediscovered these lovelies while shopping my stash, and let me just say they were totally wasted sitting there all these months!  Like a lot of other samples, they come in small baggies.  The baggies cost $1 (less if you buy ten or more) and all came fully labelled with their ingredients.  Non-vegan shades are also clearly marked as such, and larger samples in jars are available too.

I chose mostly neutral shades, but Black Rose Minerals has a great selection of colours too.  And, even though these are neutrals, they're all sparkly, complex, and not boring in the least.  They're also pigmented, super smooth and blend like a dream.

Check out the swatches for yourself!  I did these over Detrivore Cosmetics Eye Shadow Primer.  The shadows work best over some kind of primer or base, but I think that's true of almost all loose pigments.

(L to R) Steele, Mochi, Mummy May I, Shrooms, Lioness, Skink, Confused, Titania, Dot, Dusty Trails, Zealous
(L to R) Steele, Mochi, Mummy May I, Shrooms, Lioness
Skink, Confused, Titania, Dot, Dusty Trails, Zealous
They're all beautiful shades, but the real standouts for me are Titania, Dusty Trails, Confused, and Steele.  I love using Titania for a plummy/purple smokey eye and Confused makes a beautiful crease shade for tons of different looks.  Dusty Trails has less shimmer than the rest of these and I like it on the lid for more subtle looks.   And, I can't wait to try Steele, an amazing sparkly black, foiled as a liner!

Suffice it to say I'm really pleased with Black Rose Minerals.  The shadows are great quality, they have lots of colours to choose from, and the website is fairly straightforward to navigate.  They also have multiple clear swatches of every colour - dry, foiled, and on the eye - so you can get a good idea of what to expect before ordering.  If you're looking for eye shadow, Black Rose Minerals is definitely a company worth checking out!

Review: The Chequered Lily Apothecary

I know a lot of people don't like using loose eye shadows, but aside from the stress of traveling with them, I don't find them any more difficult to work with than pressed.  Which is a good thing, since if you've ever looked for natural pressed makeup, you'll know just how difficult it is to find without silicones and other nasties.

Today, I'm excited to show you these shadows from The Chequered Lily Apothecary, an etsy-based store that makes what is possibly my favorite eye shadow shade ever.  More on that later!

Ingredients
Vary by colour.  The five I have do not, but some colours contain FD&C dyes, so please refer to the individual listings if these are something you choose to avoid.

Price
$6.50 for a 5-gram sifter jar (about 1 gram of product.)  Samples are also available.

With flash.  (L to R) Neverwhere, Mr. Wednesday, Gilty, Ivy, Alice

My Thoughts
I guess I've already gone and spoiled things by announcing early on that one of my all-time favourite eye shadows would be making an appearance in this review.  Let's start there. Neverwhere is my my idea of a perfect neutral.  It's neutral but not boring; sparkly and shimmery, but not to disco ball standards.  It's dark enough that it works in the crease but light enough for a lid colour too.  The shop describes it as "warm, dirty pinked-grey with pink and gold reflect," but to me it's just the perfect golden brown.  It does have visible pink sparkles in it, but they blend in without looking gaudy or taking over.  Seriously, this colour is magic.  Even as just as an all over wash of colour, it makes you look perfectly sophisticated and put together.  And because my photos aren't doing it justice, here are a couple from the store:
(Source)
Alice, a beautiful pale blue with a golden duochrome, is the other standout among the shades I have.  I sometimes struggle wearing blues, but the gold somehow manages to make it more wearable.  Again, I borrowed these to give you a clearer idea of the colour:
(Source)
In terms of formula, these eye shadows are fantastic too.  They're nicely pigmented, apply smoothly and blend like a dream.  Even with the high sparkle content in some colours, they never feel rough or gritty.

The Bottom Line
The Chequered Lily makes top notch eye shadows.  The colours are complex and unique and I've received only the best service as well.  More specifically, Neverwhere is a favorite - certainly one of my most worn shadows.  If you're a fan of neutrals, you NEED it in your life.  I realized when taking the photos for this post that mine is starting to run out (cue eery music!)  I'll be ordering a backup (or three) and I'm interested in trying some other colours too.   Highly, highly recommended.

Alima Pure Blush Review

Before I jump into things, I should probably mention that I'm pretty new to wearing blush.  In fact, until a couple months ago, blush was the one makeup product I avoided like the plague.  Recently, however, I've become a convert and have come to appreciate how even a subtle blush can really add dimension to the face.  With that in mind, I've got my latest blush discoveries from Alima Pure to share with you today.

Alima Pure is a mineral makeup company founded on the old adage of less is more.  Less ingredients, but still maximum quality and impact.  They make a whole range of products, including more than 60 foundation shades and both matte and shimmer lines of eyeshadow and blush.  Today, I've got five blushes to show you: four from their Luminous Shimmer line and one of their Satin Mattes.

Price: Full Size: $20; Sample: $1.50

Ingredients: Mica (CI 77019), May contain [+/-]: Iron oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), titanium dioxide (CI 77891).

Clockwise from top left: Freja, Sospiro, Rosa, Mimosa, Guava

Colours
Rosa: "Soft, shimmery pink for light to medium skin. Like a bouquet of pink roses for your cheeks, but without the thorns, Rosa is what a blush was meant to be!"
A really pretty cool pink.  Gives a nice 'barely there' flush.

Guava: "Warm peach packed with gold. The perfect date-night blush, the luminous finish looks gorgeous in candlelight, and the peachy-pink tone is soft and feminine without seeming too innocent."
Glowy bronzy-peach.

Freja: :Light-to-medium warm pink with very subtle shimmer. Afraid of sparkle, but want a bit of the glow that a shimmer blush can give? Freja is your goddess! Almost matte, but better, and looks great on most skins."
Warm, peachy-tan shade with very little shimmer.  Looks very natural.

Sospiro: "Intense coral-pink with golden sparkle. Strolling through Venice in the sunshine? Sospiro is the perfect blush to make sure that your vacation pictures capture that radiant glow!"
To me, this reads more as a coppery russet than a coral or pink.  Surprisingly wearable, even on my fair skin.

Mimosa: "Pale peachy pink for fair skin. Are you a little blush-shy? Want a hint of pink, but don’t want to be overwhelmed by it? Mimosa is your new best friend."
Pretty colour, but unfortunately, it doesn't really show up on my cheeks!

Left to Right: Rosa, Mimosa, Guava, Freja, Sospiro

My Thoughts: Judging by these five colours, the formulas of both the matte and shimmer blushes are impeccable.  I'd say they have medium pigmentation, which just so happens to be my personal preference for blush.  They're pigmented enough that a little product goes a long way, but not so pigmented that they go on splotchy or are hard to blend.  Just the opposite in fact; they blend very easily and I'm not left struggling with any harsh lines or blush stripes.  I like applying loose blushes with a duo-fiber brush, first stippling the colour on and then blending it out, and this method works beautifully with these blushes.

I will say I was a little underwhelmed when I first saw the blushes in their jars, but even just swatching them, I was a much happier camper.  The only one I was disappointed with is Mimosa, and only because it's so pale as to be almost invisible on my cheeks.  Other than that, I'm really happy with the colours I chose.  The shimmer blushes have a definite sheen to them, but it's not anything even close to obnoxious or chunky glitter.  None of the these shades are super bright or dramatic; rather, they're fantastic everyday colours that I can see myself reaching for a lot!

And now, for something I haven't done before!  Here's a quick FOTD wearing Sospiro:

> Silk Naturals Sleep in a Jar in Light Peach

Lucy Minerals Lucy Light Foundation Review

I'm extra excited to write this review, because, after looking for over a year now, I may have just found my perfect foundation!

The Company
Lucy Minerals is another great mineral makeup brand.  Annie, the owner, started making mineral foundation to cover her own rosacea and eventually began selling it as well.  What's unique about most of Lucy Minerals' foundations is that they contain an antioxidant blend of Apple Poly® polyphenols, trans-resveratrol, and green coffee bean extract.  You can find more information about the antioxidants on the Lucy Minerals website.

I've never been a big fan of mineral foundation, just because I've never gotten enough coverage from a mineral foundation to suit my liking.  I'd read lots of good reviews of Lucy Minerals and heard how completely different it was to most mineral foundations, so I decided to order a couple "try it" sizes.  Try it foundations come in 5-gram jars (with sifters) and sell for only $2 each.

Foundation
Lucy Minerals has several different foundation formulas.  I decided to try the Lucy Light Foundation and ordered samples in light and bisque, which are the two lightest neutral shades.  The 'light' in the name doesn't refer to the coverage, but rather to absence of the antioxidants that are added to most of Lucy's foundations.  My skin has reacted to several foundations in the past, so I went with this formula to avoid any extra ingredients and cut down on the chance of getting any kind of reaction.

Application
Right from the first application, I was very impressed.  You really only need a small amount of foundation to achieve an amazing finish.   One thing to keep in mind is that Lucy's foundations do give a heavier coverage than a lot of other mineral foundations, so you can end up looking cakey if you apply too much, which is why I'd stress the importance of applying multiple light layers over one heavier layer.  First, I stipple on a light layer all over with an Essence of Beauty flat top blender brush.  Then, with a concealer brush, I apply a little extra to any blemishes, discoloration, or anywhere else that needs extra coverage.  Lastly, I go over it again with the blender brush and buff on another thing layer all over.

Essence of Beauty Blender Brush

Coverage
What I love most about this foundation is the finish it gives.  My skin has been pretty good lately, but the foundation covers any redness or blemishes I have and completely evens out my skin tone.  At the same time, it does not look like I am wearing any makeup!  My biggest pet peeve with foundation is if it's obvious you're wearing it.  Lucy Minerals makes it look like my skin itself is amazing, not like I'm wearing a good foundation.  It has a matte finish, but still leaves my skin looking very healthy and natural.

Wear
I get about 8 hours of perfect wear with just the foundation.  Around the 8 hour mark, I sometimes start to see a bit of shine come through on my nose or forehead.  It's nothing major, but ideally, I'd like to be able to get a few more hours of wear before having to blot or touch up.  Lucy Minerals recommends using a finishing powder and I have a sample of Silk Naturals' Perfecting Powder that I'm going to try with the foundation next.  Lucy Minerals also makes several of their own finishing powders.

Bottom Line
I'm so glad I didn't give up on mineral foundations before trying Lucy Minerals.  In terms of colours, I was lucky enough to find a perfect match in light, but I do hope they extend the shade range in the future, as it is a little limited.  They are willing to work with you and custom blend a foundation if you fall between two colours, but especially if you have darker skin, you might not find a match.   Another plus is that price-wise, Lucy Minerals is also less expensive than many other brands, at only $12 for the (full size) light formula and $14 for the formulas with added antioxidants.  If you're looking for a new foundation and do find a possible colour match, I highly recommend picking up a sample or two.  I've been using mine for about 3 weeks now and I think I've gone through less than half the sample.  I'll definitely be ordering the full size when I start to run low!

SweetPea & Fay Ultra Pigmented Lip Gloss

As I mentioned in the eye shadow post, I was also able to pick up three lip glosses with my Heartsy voucher for SweetPea & Fay. SweetPea & Fay divides their glosses into two categories - ultra pigmented and sheer.  The three I chose, Sailors Delight, Congo Kick, and Miss Lady, were all sold as ultra pigmented.  And they definitely are.  They're also thick and creamy and might be better described as liquid lipsticks, since they're so pigmented and they don't really give any noticeable shine or gloss to my lips.  Don't get me wrong, I really do like them, I'm just not sure gloss is the best category for these!

Congo Kick - is a really unique shade of lipgloss. It has a mod like feel to it, like it`s straight out of the 1960s.  It`s a really soft peach color that shines when applied.  I'm not sure I get a mod feel from this, but it's a beautiful peach colour! Probably my favourite of the three.

Sailors Delight - Pinup girl inspired, super pigmented hot pink lipgloss.  Not a super hot pink, but it is a nice, wearable bright pink.  Leans a little towards coral on me.  Texture-wise, this one is a bit thicker than the other two.

Miss Lady - is a stunning orangey peach lipgloss. It has hints of sparkle which makes it slightly metallic looking.  I don't see a whole lot of orange or peach in this one.  On me, it's more of a slightly peachy, brownish nude.  That said, I feel like I constantly struggle to find nudes I like on me, and this one is both pretty and wearable.

I never realized how hairy my hand was until I started taking swatch photos like this one, LOL:P                               (L to R) Miss Lady, Congo Kick, Sailors Delight

The Bottom Line
I'm quite happy with these glosses.  They're nicely pigmented and they feel smooth and creamy and leave my lips nicely moisturized.  For $5, you get a generous 8mL of gloss, so they're also great value.  And with SweetPea & Fay's return policy, you really can't go wrong - if you are not happy with a product, you can simply return it for a refund or exchange.  Overall, I'm really pleased with these and I'd be likely to repurchase.  I just wish they had more colours to choose from!

And lest you think I forgot -
I hope everyone's having a spooktacular day!
