Ecco Bella FlowerColor Face Powder, Cover Up & Bronzing Powder (+ a Giveaway!)

Ecco Bella has been around for over twenty years and has been an innovator for both the non-toxic and cruelty free beauty industries.  The company has a diverse product line, ecompassing skincare, body care, hair care, makeup, perfume, and even household products, but what has always stood out to me most is their selection of talc and silicone-free pressed powder offerings.  I've used several Ecco Bella products over the years, most notably the lipsticks (reviewed here) and blushes, so when I had the opportunity to pick a couple other products to review, I was eager to accept.  Keep reading for my thoughts on the FlowerColor Face Powder*, Cover Up*, and Bronzing Powder*.  And, make sure you read all the way to the end for a chance to win some Ecco Bella products for yourself!

FlowerColor Face Powder
I've used the FlowerColor Face Powder both as a finishing powder on top of cream and liquid products and on its own as a powder foundation and I really like it for both purposes.  The coverage is light but buildable, so depending on the brush you use and the number of layers you apply, it can go anywhere from a feather-light coverage, just to set other makeup, to a decent light to medium coverage that you can easily wear by itself.  It does a good job mattifying the skin and evening out skintone and minor discoloration, but it won't completely cover up things like dark circles or larger blemishes without the help of another product.  The powder has a matte finish, but it never looks dull or powdery on my skin.

I tested the two lightest powders, Fair and Pale, both of which lean pretty warm.  Fair, the lightest shade works on my light, middle-of-winter skin best.  Pale, the next shade up, is darker and seems a lot more yellow in tone.  With only four color choices and no shades for darker skintones, the shade range is limited, but if you have light to medium skin and are able to find a color match, I think this is a great product to pick up.  The powders come in sturdy, recyclable paper compacts with a good sized mirror and secured with an elastic.  As you can see, I received two slightly different versions, so I'm not sure which packaging is the most current.

FlowerColor Cover Up
The Cover Up is marketed as an all-in-one concealer for dark circles, blemishes, and any other imperfections that might need covering.  It's a stick concealer that comes in a lipstick bullet and has identical packaging to Ecco Bella's lipsticks.  The formula is thick but creamy, so a little of the cover up, plus a light dusting of powder will keep blemishes concealed all day long.  The lipstick bullet makes targeted application super easy and the cover up doesn't slide around or move at all once set with a powder.

Unfortunately, I don't find it works as well on dark circles.  Beige, the lightest shade, is very peachy, so it does color correct the darkness, but I find the consistency hard to work with.  The same thickness that I love for spot concealing is just too heavy for under the eyes and it doesn't melt or blend in effectively here, resulting in a slightly cakey look.  I did have some luck thinning the texture by mixing the cover up with both an eye cream and a lighter concealer, but on its own, it wouldn't be my first choice for concealing dark circles.

FlowerColor Bronzing Powder in Hibiscus
I'm no bronzer expert - in fact most days, I don't even use one - but I find Hibiscus leans far too orange to be used as a bronzer on skin as fair as mine.  However, I LOVE wearing it as a blush.  The color is a very peachy or even reddish bronze with a delicate sheen and used this way, it does a phenomenal job brightening up the entire face.  The powder is pigmented, but it also blends out easily, and I can't get over how pretty it is on the cheeks.  Packaging is the same as the Face Powders, and the Bronzing Powder even came embossed with Ecco Bella's initials, which is a cute touch.  It may not be my favorite bronzer shade, but I'm very happy to have it around as a blush.

The Bottom Line
Depending what you're looking for, I think all three of these are great products.  I've been using the Face Powder and Bronzer the most, but only because on an average day, I only really conceal dark circles and I didn't love the Cover Up for that purpose.  When I have had a blemish or breakout to cover, it's worked great, so if your main concern is blemishes and spot concealing, I think the Cover Up is a good choice as well.  Other than that, I'd love to see the Face Powder and Cover Up shade ranges expanded to encompass darker skin tones as well!

Ecco Bella has also generously offered to give a Face Powder and Cover Up (in the winner's choice of colors) to one lucky reader!  The giveaway is limited to US and Canada, but I promise there will be more international ones in the future.

My Thoughts
I'm completely blown away by this product!  It's the first cream bronzer I've tried, and I love it.  It feels great on the skin and it blends easily, without leaving any harsh lines.  The colour is also just perfect for my light skin - it's brown, but it doesn't end up looking at all muddy.  Lightly applied, it makes the perfect natural contour and most days that's what I use it for, just blending a little under the cheekbones and around the temples.  It's sheer, but definitely buildable, so I think it would work on somewhat darker skintones as well.  It has a slight sheen, but it's nothing crazy - just enough to leave your face looking fresh and slightly dewy.  There's no actual glitter or sparkle.  Worn on it's own, I do find it disappears over the course of the day, but it's easy enough to reapply, or alternately, going over it with a powdered bronzer (or even a translucent powder) also helps it last longer.

The Score
10/10

The Bottom Line
Highly recommended!  Aside from being a fantastic bronzer, Revolution Organics' beauty balms are multi-purpose, so you can also use them on your eyes, lips, and body.  I especially like using it as an eye shadow base, since the bronze colour works well with almost any neutral look.  Pretty much the only deterrent I can think of is the price.  At $34, it's definitely more of a luxury item, but it is a great product with fantastic ingredients.  If you can swing the price, I do think it's well worth it.

Silk Naturals Haul

Silk Naturals has definitely become one of my favorite companies.  They're my top pick for lippies these days and their other products are quickly becoming favorites too!  Orders come really quickly, they have great customer service, and I always feel like I get great value for my money too.

Here's what I got in my latest order.

Bronzer samples in Malibu Miss and Beach Bunny
I'm still looking for a good bronzer for my pale skin and these look promising.  Malibu Miss is matte, while Beach Bunny has a slight shimmer.

Eye Shadows in Sweet Tea, Cloudberry and Daiquiri
I realized I don't have a lot of neutral eye shadows and was looking for a few more "work friendly" shades.  These three are nice peachy nudes, although Cloudberry and Daiquiri are similar enough that you probably don't need both.  Sweet Tea is a gorgeous peachy/brown and my favorite of the three.  I'll try to get swatches of these (and maybe the rest of my Silk Naturals shadows?) up one day soon.

Sleep in a Jar Under Eye Concealer in Light Peach
My samples lasted a while, but they did finally run out, which was my original reason for placing this order.  I've reviewed this here - basically, it's my go to undereye concealer.

Vegan Lipstick in Crazy Love
This was a new lip stick released with Silk Natural's Spring lineup.  It's described as a somewhat sheer ruby pink with just a hint of purple, and as the lipstick equivalent of SN's Shrieking Violet liquid lip gloss, which is possibly my all time favorite lip gloss.  The swatch on SN's website is pretty accurate.

Liquid Lip Glosses in Icing and Innocent
I've also seen Innocent compared to SN's Wistaria Butter Cream, which is another of my favorite lip products.  Innocent is a pretty light pink that leans slightly purple, similar to Wistaria, but in the liquid lip gloss formula.  Overall, I think I still prefer Wistaria.  Icing is described as a light pink, but on the lips, it's really more of a clear gloss with gorgeous multi-coloured shimmer.  Really pretty on top of other colours.  One thing worth noting is that Icing has a fairly strong fruity (strawberry?) smell/taste that I'm not a big fan of, while the rest of my SN lippies have a really subtle vanilla scent.

+ Free GWP Eye Shadow in Siesta and free sample of Nekkid Eye Shadow
Silk Naturals always includes a gift with purchase (usually an eye shadow) with all orders over $10 and all orders also come with a free sample.

Review: Miessence Bronzing Dust

A couple years back, I ordered a few products from Miessence.  I liked most of what I purchased, but the bronzing dust wasn’t a big hit.   When I first tried it, I found it just made my face look dirty, so it’s ended up sitting unused in my makeup stash for all this time.  Recently, I picked it up again and have been liking it a lot for contouring my cheekbones and around my temples.

The bronzing dust only comes in one colour, a medium tan shade, so being fair-skinned, I'm careful not to pick up too much product.  If I apply more than a tiny bit, my face ends up looking muddy.  Still, with a very light hand, I think it works well as a contour colour.  Because there is only one shade, this isn't a product that will work for all skin tones.

It's also lightly scented with rose essential oil.  The scent is noticeable when I first apply it, but it doesn't linger at all.  Miessence advertises the bronzing dust as containing "a touch of shimmer," which I can see in the jar, and when I swatch it heavily, but on my face, the shimmer isn't visible at all.  I'd go so far as to say this looks like a matte bronzer on my face.

Would I repurchase?

Probably not.  With how little of this I've been applying, I think it’s going to take years, literally, to use this product up, but when I do, I'll likely look for a more inexpensive bronzer to replace it.  Miessence’s Bronzing Dust retails for $31.77 for 10 grams net weight, which is a good bit pricier than those sold by many indie makeup companies.  Quality-wise, I do like the product, but I don't think it would be too difficult to find a comparable bronzer for less money.  I'm also not sure this is the perfect shade for me - more colour choices would definitely be a big plus.
