June Empties / Products I've Used Up

Just a few things used up this month, but it's nice to give some empties the toss nonetheless!  Here's what I finished up in June:

Organic Essentials Organic Cotton Balls
Not a whole lot to say about these, but I use them to apply my DIY witch hazel/glycerin toner.  Organic cotton balls don't tend to cost much more than the standard kind, so they're generally what I pick up.  These were jumbo sized, so I broke them in half and used a half each time, which was great since it made them last twice as long.
Repurchase? Yes.

Badger Moroccan Mint Face & Body Soap   [Review]
I used this both as a face wash and a hand soap and enjoyed it both ways.  It smelled minty and refreshing and did a great job cleansing, without drying out my skin.
Repurchase? Yes.

Aura Cacia Organic Argan Oil   [Review]
I run a few drops of this through my damp hair after every shower and I find it helps reduce any static and frizz, while slightly defining my curls.  I also used it on my face throughout the winter.  I've already picked up another bottle, but the new one is bit odd and seems to have peppermint oil in it.  It's labelled as pure argan, same as this one, but given how it smells, there's definitely something else in there.  It's unfortunate, since whatever it is covers up that lovely, nutty argan scent I'd gotten used to.  I'm still using it on my hair, but I'm not so sure about using it on my face, since I don't know what else is in there!
Repurchase? Yes, I already have.

Osmia Organics Active Gel Nutrient Serum (sample)   [Review]
I loved this serum so so much and the sample really did go a long way!  It lasted me about two months, with nearly nightly use.  I noticed a big difference in the suppleness of my skin with the serum and it also helped with the two wrinkles I struggle with on my forehead.  I have a couple other serums I'm trying out now, but I could definitely see myself returning to this in the future.
Repurchase? Yes, though not right away.

Suti Facial Cleansing Balm (sample)
On days when I wear makeup, I like to cleanse with oil before using a regular cleanser, but when I rediscovered this sample in my stash, I decided to try it in place of the oil step.  It was my first time using a balm cleanser and even though it worked well at breaking down makeup, I prefer a liquid oil, especially for removing eye makeup.  Also, while in the pot this cleanser had a lovely, bright citrus scent, on my face, it reminded me of lemon-scented cleaning products, so not the most appealing!
Repurchase? No.

Balm Balm Super Light Coconut Cleanser (sample)
This is literally just fractionated coconut oil, which you can find for a fraction of Balm Balm's price elsewhere. Beyond that, while coconut oil is effective at removing makeup, it isn't my favorite oil to use as I find it stings my eyes.
Repurchase? No.

Face Naturals Acai Berry & Lime Organic Body Cleanser   [Review]
If you'd asked me last month what my favorite body wash was, I would likely have answered with this product, but this particular bottle was a disappointment.  It worked well, but it had a thick, goopy, gelatinous consistency that just wasn't a joy to use.  The acai berry was also in clumps, as opposed to evenly incorporated as it usually is.  I did store this for a couple months after buying it, but I don't see how that would change the product.  I'm thinking I just got a dud bottle this time around.
Repurchase? Maybe.

And that's all for June - some hits, some misses, and a couple oddities too!  What have you used up recently?

Favorite Spring/Summer Lip Colors

I've seen a bunch of these posts pop up on different blogs over the last few weeks, and I figured I'd join in and share my top lip picks for spring and summer.  In the warmer months, I'm more drawn to brighter lip colors, but at the same time, I prefer lighter products that are a little bit sheer.  I've narrowed it down to these six favorites.

(L to R) Silk Naturals Crazy Love Vegan Lipstick, Silk Naturals Twirl Kissable Cream Lip Gloss, LUVU Beauty Peppy Lip Gloss, Revolution Organics Freedom Lip Gloss, My Beauty Addiction Party Girl Pretty Lil' Puckers Lip Gloss, Osmia Organics Lip Luster
Silk Naturals Organic Vegan Lipstick in Crazy Love
Shrieking Violet is one of Silk Naturals' more popular lip glosses and Crazy Love is what they came up with when a lot of people, myself included, requested a more opaque, lipstick version of that gloss.  It's perfect for when you want a bright, stand-out pink lip, but it also has a slight bit of purple/berry to it as well, which I find makes it a lot more wearable than a straight up hot pink.

Silk Naturals Kissable Cream Lip Gloss in Twirl   [Review]
I was reminded shortly after I'd taken these photos that Silk Naturals has discontinued their Kissable Cream glosses, so this one is, unfortunately, not available anymore.  These were a lovely formula, but hopefully Silk Naturals will release a similar color in one of their other lines as Twirl really is the perfect milky coral.

LUVU Beauty Lip Gloss in Peppy
LUVU Beauty's lip glosses are one of my favorite products from the brand, and Peppy really is the perfect color for spring.  It's a bright coral/poppy color with a small amount of shimmer, though the shimmer is not very noticeable on the lips.  LUVU's glosses are scented with tangerine essential oil, so they smell delicious.  They're also on the thicker side, which means they last really well on your lips too.

Revolution Organics Freedom Lip Gloss in Freedom
Revolution Organics' glosses are super hydrating and feel incredible on the lips.  Freedom is perfect if, like me, you're a little shy of wearing full-on red lips.  It's a gorgeous classic red, but it's sheer and has a bit of pink to it too.

My Beauty Addiction Pretty Lil' Puckers Lip Gloss in Party Girl   [Review]
The Pretty Lil' Puckers glosses are super shiny and Party Girl is a great bright, mauvey-pink.  My only complaint with these glosses is that, as you can see in the swatch of Party Girl, they've started to separate.  I love the squeeze tube, but I may end up just dumping it into a pot so I can stir it back together!

Osmia Organics Lip Luster   [Review]
In the swatch, this looks darker than Freedom, but on your lips, it's a lot more subtle.  The formula is intensely hydrating and melts into your lips, leaving you with just a slight, hint of color.

Do any of these catch your eye?  What are your favorite lip products for spring and summer?

Osmia Organics Active Gel Nutrient Serum

Makeup has been a favorite of mine for quite some time, but it's only in the last six months or so that I've become more interested in skincare.  It's amazing how much of a difference a slightly more involved routine can make!  A couple months ago, I won an Osmia Organics lip gloss in a Facebook giveaway and Sarah, Osmia's owner/formulator, kindly included a sample of the Active Gel Nutrient Serum as well.

"This gentle face serum provides an extra layer of soothing moisture, with hyaluronic acid and niacinamide to help maintain intracellular water in the skin cells.  White tea and aloe comfort the skin, and rice protein acts to smooth and support the collagen structure of the skin.  This gel serum is meant to be used as a middle layer, between washing and applying a moisturizer or an oil serum.  Think of it as a multivitamin for your face."

Osmia recommends applying the serum to moist skin, so after cleansing, I mist my face with George's Aloe and make sure to rub the serum in while my skin is damp.  It absorbs quickly and unlike a lot of other gel serums, it leaves no film or tacky feeling on your skin.  I prefer my morning skincare to be quick and with fewer steps, so I usually only use the serum at night, but it does work well under makeup too, should you want to use it during the day.

The first night I used it, I did a double take over how much more plumped and firm my skin felt only a few minutes after application.  At 25, I think I still have fairly young skin, but I can't remember my skin ever feeling as firm, plump, and lifted as it's become since I started using this product.  In the beginning, this feeling would last until the morning and then my skin would seem back to normal, but once I hit about the 3 week mark, I noticed that my skin seemed to be retaining the extra moisture better and feels this way all day long.

The serum is also fantastic for fine lines.  Some of you may recall my struggle with the two small lines between my eyebrows, and Osmia's serum has made a real difference with them.  I've tried a few different products in the hopes of targeting this area, and this is the first one that's given real, visible results.  I know hyaluronic acid can sometimes reduce the appearance of lines just by plumping the surrounding area, but I think it goes beyond that, as the lines definitely seem shallower and less pronounced, even up to 24 hours after using the serum.  Makeup also sits better on this area and I've had less problems with it settling into the lines throughout the day.

I've been using the sample once a day for about a month and I've still got a little left.  A full size retails for $55, and considering how potent the serum is and how far the sample alone has gone, it's something I do think I'll be purchasing in the future.  I'm so impressed with the results I've gotten from this product!  Osmia's Active Gel Nutrient Serum is a light serum that's equal parts gentle and effective, and I think it would suit a lot of different skin types.

Ingredients: aloe barbadensis leaf juice*, glycerin*, camellia sinensis (white tea) extract*, calendula officinalis extract*, hydrolyzed rice protein, oat beta glucan, leuconostoc/arundinaria gigantea ferment filtrate, niacinamide (vitamin B3), sclerotium rolfsii gum, hydrolyzed oats, hyaluronic acid, proprietary blend of essential oils*.

Spring Favorites

Spring is finally in the air and I wanted to share a few products I've been loving lately...

Mineral Fusion Nail Polish
I always look at Mineral Fusion's products, but I'd never bought anything until I found the nail polishes on sale at Whole Foods last month.  The polishes are solvent based, but they are Big 3 Free.  I've got Amethyst on my toes right now and it's a beautiful deep burgundy/purple.  Shimmering Shale is a lovely pink/rose gold glitter that's surprisingly opaque in a couple coats.

Osmia Organics Active Gel Nutrient Serum + Aura Cacia Organic Argan Oil
When I won a lip luster, Sarah from Osmia Organics asked me if I'd like to try a sample of any other products and I chose the Active Gel Nutrient Serum.  It's a lovely serum with hyaluronic acid and niacinamide that has become a happy addition to my nighttime skin routine.  I started using argan oil on my face around the same time and I've noticed a big difference in the evenness and overall appearance of my skin since adding these two products.

Young Living Lavender Hand & Body lotion + Pai Rosehip Bioregenerate Oil
I wouldn't say I've been overly preoccupied with it, but I've always kind of thought I had unattractive, somewhat man-ish hands.  As it turns out, all they needed was some TLC!  I'm not a big hand cream person, but I started using a combination of Young Living's hand lotion with a drop of Pai's rosehip oil once or twice a day and it's seriously transformed the look of my hands!

Inika Creme Eye Shadows
Inika recently sent me a few products to try and I've been loving the Creme Eye Shadows!  I have Pink Cloud and Champagne, which are both light, shimmery colors and I adore using them as cream highlights.  They, of course, also work as eye shadows.  I'll have a full review and swatches up soon.

Homemade Eye Shadow Palettes
If you saw my TKB Trading Haul, these won't come as a surprise.  I made two small eye shadow palettes - one neutral and one colorful - and I'm incredibly happy with how they turned out.  They're mainly loose shadows I'd previously bought and just pressed, but a few of them are colors I mixed up myself.  I've also made a couple blush palettes from the ingredients I got from TKB and I'll definitely do a more detailed post on both of these soon.  In the meantime, I'll leave you with a closer look at the eye shadow palettes.  Just looking at these makes me happy!

Osmia Organics Luster Lip Gloss

About a month ago, I was lucky enough to win a giveaway on Osmia Organics' Facebook page.  I was excited to win, and even more so when I found out I'd won one of their luster lip glosses.  This is a product I already had my eye on after reading about it on a few different blogs, so I was excited to be able to try it out for myself!

What I love most about this gloss is that it acts as a lip gloss and lip treatment, all in one.  We're still waiting on Spring weather here and my lips have been suffering a little.  Osmia's lip luster is perfect for those days when your lips need a little extra coddling, but you want to wear something more than just lip balm.  It really does help heal your lips, and they'll look fantastic in the process!

The texture is different from a lot of other glosses.  It comes out of the tube thick and semi-solid, but it's not at all sticky and it spreads easily on contact with the warmth of your skin.  Because of how thick it is, I prefer to take the gloss on my finger and dab it onto my lips, rather than applying it straight from the tube.

The ingredients list rose geranium essential oil, but it isn't something I smell very strongly.  To me, the luster has a very mild, fruity smell.  In fact, it smells and tastes very similar to Vapour's Elixir Gloss (the non-plumping one.)

Color-wise, the luster looks dark and a little intimidating in the tube, but it sheers out a lot when applied.  It's colored only with alkanet and beet root, so it doesn't have intense, opaque pigmentation.  Instead, you're left with a beautiful, sheer colour.  It reminds me of how your lips look after eating a popsicle - plumped and glossy, with just a hint of red.

The Bottom Line
I've heard a lot about Osmia Organics over the last couple months and the lip luster definitely lives up to the hype.  It's a lovely lip gloss, only made better by the fact that it also nourishes your lips.  It's been the perfect lip product for winter, but I already know I'll be reaching for it in the warmer months too!

I've also been using (and loving!) a sample of the company's Active Gel Nutrient Serum - more on that later.  Have you tried anything from Osmia Organics?

Ingredients: wild harvested batschia canescens (alkanet) powder and beta vulgaris (beet root*)-infused ricinus communis (castor bean) oil*, beeswax*, lanolin, GMO-free vitamin E oil, rose geranium essential oil*  (*=Certified Organic)
