ZibaDel Natural Manuka Honey Skin Cream (+ a Giveaway!) (Closed)

For as long as I've been blogging, one of the most common questions I get asked is how to treat eczema holistically.  Similarly, when I worked at the health food store, I don't think I ever went more than a few days without someone asking the very same thing.  Eczema is pretty widespread and with a lot of doctors not knowing what to do beyond prescribing steroids, it's no wonder so many people are searching for more information.

I was contacted a couple months ago by Jennifer Roberge, owner of The Eczema Company, an online store that provides natural and non-toxic skin care, clothing and laundry products for children and adults suffering from eczema.  Jennifer's story is similar to a lot of other natural entrepreneurs in that the impetus for starting her business was her own family's experiences with eczema.  Jennifer's son, Tristan was diagnosed with eczema at three months old and his skin continued to worsen until, at age three, 90% of his body was covered in what looked like third degree burns.  You can read more of Tristan's story and how Jennifer and her husband have healed his eczema 95% with dietary changes, supplements, natural skincare, and gentle clothing and laundry care on Jennifer's blog, It's an Itchy Little World.

Aside from a short-term allergic reaction that a doctor once diagnosed as eczema, I thankfully don't suffer from this skin condition, but I knew right away I still wanted to work on a collaboration.  After a few back and forths, we decided I should try ZibaDel Natural's Manuka Honey Skin Cream.*  It's one of The Eczema Company's best selling products and can be used for everything from healing wounds to eczema and itchy skin.  According to Jennifer, her husband even uses it on his face in the winter!  I've been testing the cream out for a couple weeks now so I can give you a good idea what I think.

Jennifer has kindly offered to give one of you the chance to try the cream as well, so make sure you read to the end and enter the giveaway!

ZibaDel Natural Manuka Honey Skin Cream
The Manuka Honey Skin Cream has a short ingredients list consisting only of organic beeswax, organic olive oil, grape seed oil, organic active 16+ manuka honey, manuka oil extract, and filtered water.  Both manuka honey and manuka oil are known for their healing, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties and the simple formula of the Skin Cream really lets these two ingredients shine.  It's also a Canadian product, handmade in British Columbia and completely GMO-free.  Looking at the ingredients list, I was expecting more of a solid balm, but the Skin Cream actually has a lovely, soft, creamy texture instead.  With no added fragrance, the cream just smells lightly of olive oil.

Like I said, I don't have eczema, but I do have sensitive skin, so I knew I'd find something to test the cream on.  As soon as the weather gets colder, my hands get dry and easily irritated - even under gloves - and they were particularly raw and inflamed right when the Manuka Honey Skin Cream showed up at my door.  By then I'd tried a couple other products and nothing had done much more than moisturize the area for a few hours.  That first night, I applied a good layer of the cream before bed and in the morning, there was a noticeable improvement.  The redness was gone and my skin wasn't raw anymore.  I did the same thing the next few nights and my hands healed up completely.  I've had a couple minor re-occurrences since then - which I think is really just by nature of the weather - but the Skin Cream has helped each time.  I've also used the cream on a couple other dry patches, as well as on my cuticles and on a small rash that popped up on my leg, and it's worked a treat for everything.

The Bottom Line
The Manuka Honey Skin Cream has been great for my fussy skin and The Eczema Company has a whole bunch of reviews attesting to how well it works on eczema as well.  I think it's a good multi-purpose healing cream that anyone could benefit from keeping on hand and love that it offers all the healing properties of a balm, with a softer, lighter consistency that melts into the skin easily and isn't overly greasy.

If you or someone in your family has eczema, I also highly recommend checking out Jennifer's blog.  Jennifer's writing is down to earth and the site has a wealth of information on eczema, allergies, and asthma.

  9. I would use it for the really dry spots I have, such as elbows and knees, hands, and on those freezing days when my face feels like it's going to crack. I think moisturizing is crucial as we age. Also, I wanted to mention that we use manuka honey in our oatmeal; it's expensive but has great properties.
