Recently I've been enjoying Balanced Guru's Calming Masque.  I love the entire pampering ritual of masking - not to mention the very real and visible difference a mask can make to one's skin - and I always do my best to take the time to do a face mask at least once a week.  The Calming Masque is a recent favorite.  It's packed with a whole host of skin soothing ingredients like calendula, marshmallow root, echinacea, aloe vera and kelp, but I actually find it surprisingly detoxifying and even intense at times.

Like a lot of other natural face masks, the Calming Masque comes as a powder and needs to be mixed with the liquid(s) of your choice.  With just water, I find the mask is a little too strong and drawing for my skin, but when I add a few drops of a face oil to the mix, it works much better, with the oil preventing the mask from drying as hard.  I also like to only leave the mask on for about 10-15 minutes and remove it before it's had a chance to dry completely.  If I want to leave it on any longer, I will keep it moist with some kind of face spray.  (Balanced Guru's Tone It Smoothly works really well for this purpose.)

The Calming Masque has a lightly sweet, berry scent, though I'm not sure there's anything in the ingredients to attribute that to.  The mask is a great bright/deep green color, feels refreshing and cooling when I first apply it, and leaves my skin noticeably clearer and brighter when I wash it off.  I also like knowing that I'm feeding my skin a good dose of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants from the kelp, alfalfa, spirulina, rosehip, and sea buckthorn fruit, whilst calming ingredients like echinacea, gingko biloba, marshmallow root, calendula, and aloe vera simultaneously target inflammation and reduce redness.

The Bottom Line
This mask might be too intense for very dry or sensitive skin, but for everyone else, I think it's great.  It has an impressive ingredients list full of organic, nourishing botanicals and offers both detoxifying and soothing benefits to the skin.

Another thing I love about Balanced Guru is that they offer trial sizes of all their products!  They have a 'Try Before You Buy' deal going on now where you can pick one trial size product for free and pay only $5 shipping.  It also includes a coupon for $5 off the full size item, should you decide to purchase it.  Check it out here.

    1. My skin freaked out last week too...I think it's this back and forth warm/cold weather, my skin just can't keep up. The mask is fantastic though, definitely a new favorite. They have a few other ones I want to try now as well. Let me know if you end up getting anything! :)

    1. Yes! I took advantage of the $5 deal when they first started it. The mini sizes are great - for the mask, it was 1 ounce, enough for at least 5-6 masks :)
