29 Days of Blogging

This past week aside, you may have noticed a lot more posts than usual this last month.  I didn't announce it publicly - mostly because I wasn't sure I could do it - but late in November, I challenged myself to blog everyday for 30 days.  As the title suggests, I only ended up making it to day 29.  The final post would have fallen on Christmas Eve, but because of picking up a last minute holiday retail job and a couple other factors, I ended up deciding to call it quits a day early.  Even one day short, I'd still consider it a success.  I've never blogged so frequently, and I learned a good few things about this blogging thing we do.

Actually posting everyday is hard.

Life stuff gets in the way.  The internet doesn't always work perfectly.  Photos sometimes don't come out how you want them to.  Usually setbacks like this will make me delay a post an extra day, but with daily blogging none of this matters - you still have to push through and get your post up somehow.

Creating this much extra content also forced me to branch out from the usual kinds of posts I do.  I even did a makeup look!

What to Expect for 2015
Going forward, daily blogging isn't feasible for me at this point, but I do want to stick to a regular three blog posts per week.  In the past I've struggled to stay consistent with even that, but after a month of blogging everyday, it seems much more manageable.  I also have a couple ideas for videos I'd like to film in the next couple months, though I'm not going to commit to a definite timeline on those.

I'd love to know what kinds of posts you like best and if there's anything specific you'd like to see in the new year.  Also, today's the last day of my Odylique giveaway, so if you haven't done so already, make sure to head over to that post and enter.

  1. Good on you for blogging everyday! I did a similar challenge in April, and certainly found it tuff. Looking forward to 2015. :)

  2. I noticed and am seriously impressed!! I congratulate myself when I manage twice a week, let alone every day. I think not announcing it is a smart way to go as then there's not so much pressure... then again, I'd probably stop at the first hurdle if I didn't tell anyone about it! Did you enjoy it? x

    1. Thanks!! I thought about that too - whether announcing it might make me more likely to follow through - but in the end I was more worried about publicly failing :)

I did enjoy it! Some days were a struggle, but it was always really satisfying when I got the post up. Plus, keeping count was kind of fun!

  4. It's so great to challenge yourself and I definitely admire your stamina as a fellow blogger. I've also had the struggle with content creation (and not just quantity, but maintain quality and a unique set-up as well) and always try to post at least three times a week. Your posts have maintained originality and consistency in all! I bow down. ;)

    1. Thanks Megan! There were a couple days in there where I think content suffered a little, but overall I'm happy with how I did :) Not an output I could maintain long term, but nice to know I'm capable of it all the same!

  5. Good for you for blogging for 29 days, that's awesome! You've inspired me to be more consistent with my own blog. Can't wait to see what 2015 holds for Naturalla Beauty xo

  6. Wow, daily blogging! I litterally shudder at the thought! I try to stick to a minimum of 2 a week with a 3rd or 4th post added in when really inspired to include them or want to share a haul or something quick and simple.
    Well done you!

    1. Thanks! It's definitely a lot of blogging. Short-term was doable, but I'm amazed by bloggers who regularly produce that much content. 2-4 posts per week is much more my speed as well :)

  7. Congrats, Caitie! Definitely noticed. When I committed to blogging 3x a week a few years ago, I noticed a great increase in traffic and a widening community. Plus, you just become a master of it! I bumped it up to 5x a week in 2013 and that was killer — but I also felt like I was just ALWAYS ONLINE. I slowed it down a lot this year, and I'm looking forward to doing something you mentioned: Branching out. Not just standalone product reviews, but things like makeup looks, personal posts about your lifestyle/philosophy, tips and tricks and of course, a great base of detailed product reviews about items that the community really needs to know about. Good luck to a great blogging adventure in 2015! xoxo kim

    1. Thanks Kim! 5x a week for an entire year is really impressive, but I completely understand why you decided to slow it down a little. My schedule may not usually lend itself to daily posts, but I do feel like this challenge reinvigorated me towards blogging. I'm definitely looking forward to everything this year will bring :)

  8. I really enjoyed all of your posts from the month! You must be proud! I am hesitantly starting to try to do 30 in a row too, because I realize I have so many ideas I want to follow through with. It's going to require a ton of planning because I work two jobs and I know that things are always going to get crazy, but I figure there's no harm in trying!

    1. Thanks Mary! It does feels like an accomplishment now that it's done :) Like you said, it definitely requires a lot of planning to blog every single day - I don't know if it's something I could have managed had I been working full time (let alone 2 jobs!). Good luck! I've been enjoying all your posts so far this month :)
