Petit Vour: Beauty Thrillers (October 2014)

I can't believe it's that time of the month already: the time when I receive happy pink mail from Petit Vour!  Petit Vour is a monthly subscription service providing vegan and cruelty-free beauty products.  They also do an AMAZING job on the natural front and include only items that are free of parabens, phthalates, formaldehyde, sulfates, and other toxic ingredients.

Tying into Halloween, October's box was Petit Vour's Beauty Thrillers Collection*.  Here's what came in my box:

Flo + Theo Lavender Flower Body Butter (Sample Value ±$7)
This whipped body butter, which has a base of shea and cocoa butters, seems really rich and concentrated, so I'm betting it will be fantastic on dry skin, particularly moving into the colder months.  The lavender scent wouldn't have been my first choice - mint, lemon, and orange were also options - but it's still a product I'll definitely make use of.

Forager Botanicals Woodland Eau de Parfum (Unknown Sample Value)
As you all know, I'm not a perfume girl, so perfume samples never get me too excited.  That said, I do really like how Woodland smells.  It's described as a "unisex fragrance with notes of cedarwood, high alps lavender, and sweet rich herbs" and it does smell lovely and outdoorsy.  Perfume really isn't my jam, but I'm contemplating how I could use the sample to scent either a homemade body oil or liquid soap.  I'll keep you posted!

S.W. Basics Cleanser ($12)
S.W. Basics' ethos of using minimal but high quality ingredients has always appealed to me, but I've never actually tried anything from the line.  I received the cleanser, which is a simple mix of rosewater, vegetable glycerin and tea tree essential oils.  Glycerin and my face are not always the best of friends, so I'll be trying this one carefully.

Pacifica Devoean Natural Lipstick in Natural Mystic ($14)
On my pale complexion, Natural Mystic is a dark, almost vampy brown that's way outside my lipstick comfort zone, but I am impressed with the formula of these lipsticks.  They pack a lot of color intensity while still feeling creamy and non-drying on the lips.  I also really like the slimline tube, since it gives you that extra bit of precision when applying such a pigmented lip product.  The lipstick is scented with the company's signature coconut scent, but it doesn't seem as heavily fragranced as a lot of other Pacifica products.  I'd definitely consider picking up a different, more me color at some point.

The Bottom Line
Maybe I've been spoiled by how absolutely stellar the last few Petit Vour boxes have been, but I have to say I'm a little disappointed in this month's offerings!  There were definitely great brands and products featured, but the specifics of the box I received just weren't my favorite.  As always, the value was certainly there, with this month's box ringing in at $33, not even counting the perfume sample.  The box also came with a coupon code for 30% off a Leni Penn handbag.

Petit Vour boxes retail for $15 (US) / $23 (Canada) / $30 (International) and individual products can also be bought in the Petit Vour shop.

Have you tried any of these products?  Am I being too hard on this box?

Also, check out my much more effusive reactions to the June, July, August, and September Petit Vour boxes.

    1. PV is my favorite sub box too, I just felt slightly less excited about this month's than usual. Glad you were happy with your box :)

  2. Funnily enough as I was reading this I was thinking that nothing in it really grabbed me, so I'm kind of glad that it wasn't just me being weird! Some nice products but nothing that makes me want to instantly subscribe. Thanks for your review :) x

    1. Glad you see where I'm coming from! I don't feel like it was a bad box by any means, just not quite up to PV's usual AMAZING standards :)

  3. i don't think you were too harsh. compared to your reviews of other months, this box does seem a bit unexciting.

    1. Thanks for saying that :) It's not that it was bad, just not as stellar as the previous few boxes!

  4. I've never heard of Petit Vour before, but it looks cute! Whipped body butter in Mint would be amazing! But yeah, I could see why you'd be a little bit unimpressed with this box. Brown lipstick has never been right with my complexion!

    1. Yeah, brown lipstick is tough to pull off I think! This one's not terrible, it just looks very dark and almost vampy against my light skin. Overall, I think Petit Vour is a great box. This specific one wasn't my favorite, but based on everything I've received the last five months, it's definitely a subscription I'd still happily recommend :)

  5. Not too harsh at all! Compared to previous PV boxes, this one felt a little thin. I was excited to get my Pacifica lippie, though I think my color is different from yours. More pinkish - berry. I'd already tried items from SW Basics, Flo + Theo and Forager, and while I like all those brands, I like when these boxes introduce me to items I haven't tried before! Maybe next month.

    1. Thanks Kim! Discovering new brands/products is the best part of these sub boxes I think! :)
