I recently had the chance to try out Organation, a vegan natural skincare brand creating customized facial creams in Portland, Oregon. Organation uses pure, organic, and bioavailable ingredients and forgoes parabens, PEG's, synthetic fragrances, and other undesirable ingredients.
The company's custom creams are designed with the help of a simple skin quiz and are individually made using Organation's proprietary machinery that cleanly dispenses precise amounts of each ingredient in a controlled, sanitary, and hands-free environment.
I designed my Customized Facial Cream in February and I've been loving it ever since -- without getting too cheesy, it really does feel like a moisturizer formulated just for my skin!

The Customization Process
Organation's process revolves around a simple, 3-step quiz. Before you start, the quiz asks for your name, which will be printed, as entered, on the label of your face cream.
Next, the quiz asks your skin type, sensitivity, and age, and whether you live in an urban environment or smoke. These background questions help Organation create the base of your cream.
Then, you're asked to choose up to three skin concerns. I was debating between a few here, so I ended up doing some back and forth on the quiz and chose based on the ingredients tied to each concern. You can also click on the small i for an explanation of each concern. Ultimately, I decided on breakouts, hyperpigmentation, and dehydration.
Based on my skin concerns, my custom formula ended up with:
- green tea extract
- willow bark extract
- licorice extracts
- vitamin C
- vegan hyaluronic acid from yeast
- carrot seed oil (I don't see this as an option anymore, but I would definitely reach out to Organation to inquire if you're looking for it!)

This step is also where you select the scent for your cream. There are three choices: Clearing (eucalyptus, peppermint, tea tree, and lemongrass), Healing Floral (rosewood, lavender, German chamomile, and orange flower), or Unscented. I opted for the Clearing blend.
The final page gives you a summary of the information you've entered and your active ingredients, as well as the full ingredient list for your formulation and directions for use.
From here, it's just a matter of checking out and (im)patiently waiting for your custom cream to be made and shipped to your door. My cream shipped within a couple days of placing the order and took about a week and a half to get to me in Canada.
My Formulation
Like I said, I'm very happy with the cream that Organation created for me! I selected combination skin at the beginning of the quiz and in addition to the targeted ingredients I chose, my cream includes organic aloe vera juice and hemp, sea buckthorn, sesame, avocado, and pomegranate oils. It's a beautiful lightweight moisturizer that sinks in quickly and hydrates nicely.
In the winter, the cream was borderline too light for my skin on its own, so I found myself either layering or combining it with a face oil for that perfect balance of lightweight moisture and nourishing protection against the cold. I think it will be great by itself as soon as the weather warms up a little more here.
I noticed within the first couple days of use that my skin tone looked very porcelain and even, with virtually none of my usual redness or flushing. I've also seen a difference in my pores -- they seem smaller and less noticeable! -- and in the overall clearness of my skin. The cream also sits well under makeup and does a fantastic job regulating my oils. I usually need to blot once or twice throughout the day or I feel like a shiny mess, and, while I still usually do it out of habit, it's not nearly as necessary on days when I use the Organation cream. The Clearing scent is mild, fresh, and minty, and I'm happy I chose it!

The Bottom Line
I had a lot of fun designing my customized facial cream and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Custom skincare is a fun way to create your own products without the tricky formulating part and Organation is definitely a brand that's doing it right!
