2018 Clean Beauty Awards: Winners Revealed!

Months of testing by a panel of more than 65 judges, hundreds of products in 15 different categories, and the results are finally in!

The Clean Beauty Awards, organized annually by CertClean and PurPicks, celebrate excellent products in the non-toxic beauty sector.  The awards are based here in Toronto, but products submissions come from brands from all over the world.  I was asked to judge for the second time this year and it's always a thrill to see the entrants, finalists, and, of course, winners, which were just revealed yesterday.

You can check out the all the winners on the Clean Beauty Awards website, but I also want to take the chance to highlight my personal top three products from the awards -- two winners and one that, for reasons that are beyond me, must not have scored quite as high with the other judges.

Luk Beautifood Lip Nourishes in Tea Rose and Ruby Grapefruit
These two snagged both the winner and first runner-up spots in the Lipstick category, and it's easy to see why.  Soft and balmy with gorgeous colour and luxe packaging, they were my top pick for the awards and also scored a spot in my winter favourites a couple months ago.  The formula, which includes cold pressed avocado, sesame, and castor oils, cocoa butter, and beeswax, is ultra-comfortable and moisturizing, and the colours are soft and beautiful.  The Lip Nourishes aren't full pigment lipsticks, but they're exactly what I look for in an everyday lip product -- one colour or the other has been in my purse almost constantly since these two landed on my doorstep last summer!

Organic Island Nourishing Hand Crème
Organic Island products ranked in a couple other categories, but this particular one didn't make the winner's circle.  It's nonetheless one of my favourite discoveries from the awards (which will come as no surprise if you keep up with me on Instagram!)  The Nourishing Hand Crème is non-greasy, lush, and moisturizing, with a sweet floral scent.  The main scent note comes from ylang ylang essential oil, but it's well-balanced with orange and sandalwood essential oils and natural coconut flavour to create a sweet but not overpowering floral fragrance.  The ingredients, which feature lycii berry and olive leaf extract alongside aloe vera, avocado, olive, evening primrose, and rosehip fruit oils, offer regenerative, healing, and protective benefits as well as rich moisture.  The Hand Crème was my go-to all winter for my hands, and also occasionally for my dry feet and elbows too!

Standing Stone Wellness Creamsicle Body Butter
I love a good body butter and Standing Stone's handcrafted creation, which scooped up first place in the Bodycare category, is just the thing!  Made with a blend of jojoba, coconut and soybean oils, beeswax, and kokum butter, it has a perfect soft consistency, melts into the skin beautifully, and thoroughly moisturizes without any greasy residue.  The butter, which is scented with sweet orange essential oil and orange fruit extract, doesn't have the strong vanilla component that I usually expect in a creamsicle scent, but the orange is beautiful, fresh and fruity.  Another well-deserved winner in my book!

And that's a wrap on the 2018 awards!  Check out the full list of winners over on the Clean Beauty Awards website.
