I was reading recently that something like 40-50% of the products (food, cosmetics and cleaning products) in the average household contain palm oil. I can believe it too - it really does crop up in everything!Caitiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09698164168416976845noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4226777357926708402.post-53357259021904291242014-12-12T00:01:14.545-05:002014-12-12T00:01:14.545-05:00Thanks Rachel! I think it's an important issue to consider, especially since so many people (and companies) often believe they're purchasing a much more sustainable product than they really are. It's crazy how exploitative these systems are to local farmers and that we just let it go on.

If a company could prove sustainability, that would be fine with me too, but I wouldn't even know what kind of proof to ask for! Which is why I do my best to just minimize use overall :)Caitiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09698164168416976845noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4226777357926708402.post-36656158190005024922014-12-11T15:34:58.851-05:002014-12-11T15:34:58.851-05:00amazing post, very well written. Thanks so much for going into depth about this 'issue' with Palm oil. I am quite aware of it but no where near as much as I should be. Neither of these systems has tended to empower local farmers and deforestation is still a major problem.

If a brand shows me the receipts as to their palm oil's suppliers (and their sustainability/conservation efforts), I am willing to consider.Jaguar Zinniashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13456134769669262062noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4226777357926708402.post-32277434206372718342014-12-10T15:51:26.261-05:002014-12-10T15:51:26.261-05:00My pleasure :) I've had some difficulty findin...My pleasure :) I've had some difficulty finding palm oil free soaps that are solid and long lasting as well...some of them just get really melty or gummy right away. We are also concerned about deforestation and palm oil, which is why we donĀ“t use it in any of our soaps. I have one customer in particular who shopped around for a long time and also tried making her own palm free soaps. She tells me that our Rose geranium Lavender soaps are the best palm free soaps and she buys about 20 of them a year. The formula is a little different that all of our other palm free formulas because it has both Organic cocoa butter and raw unrefined shea butter for making a very hard and long lasting bar.http://www.aquarianbath.com/lavender-rose-soap-vegan-geranium.htmlAquarian Bathhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06850256887161179822noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4226777357926708402.post-90183146500688336252014-12-10T08:04:30.784-05:002014-12-10T08:04:30.784-05:00Love this post!
